Pain, pins-and-needles or numbness travelling from the lower back into the buttock, thigh, calf or foot, usually caused by irritation of nerves in the lower back. It can be sharp, shooting or burning, or sometimes it can feel like a deep ache. Some patients describe it as being like having "toothache in my leg".
