Introduction to Strength Training in Solihull

Our six-week programme to help you build confidence and capability at home or in the gym — designed for people with little or no gym experience, including those returning to activity after injury.

About introduction to strength training

Strength is for life, not just for athletes

Strength training is one of the most powerful tools we have for staying independent, pain‑free, and confident in everyday life.

Our new six‑week “Introduction to Strength Training” programme is designed specifically for people with little or no gym experience, including those returning to activity after injury or living with conditions that have been worsened by long‑term weakness. Over six supportive, small‑group sessions, you’ll learn how to move well, build resilience, and develop a simple, sustainable strength routine you can use for life.

What you'll gain

Each session combines clear coaching on technique with carefully progressed exercises using machines, free weights, and bodyweight, all tailored to your starting point and any limitations you may have. We’ll focus on the movements that matter most in daily life – standing up from a chair, carrying shopping, climbing stairs, lifting children or grandchildren, and getting up and down from the floor – while also laying the foundations for better posture, joint health, and bone strength.

You’ll leave each week with a bit more confidence, a bit more capacity, and a clearer understanding of how to train safely on your own.

Expertise you can trust

The programme is designed and run by our Senior Osteopath Rosi Sexton and our Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Chris Miah, who work every day with people managing pain, recovering from injury, and rebuilding activity levels after time off.

If you’ve been told you “should” do strength training but don’t know where to start – or if you’ve had a niggle, operation, or flare‑up that’s made you wary of the gym – this is a structured, low‑pressure way to begin. By the end of six weeks, you’ll have a personalised plan, the skills to keep progressing, and the support to make strength training a normal, manageable part of your routine.

How to get involved

Our next six-week course starts on Sunday 4th October at 11am and runs at True Fitness, Olton Wharf, B92 7RN.
