MSK Diagnostic Ultrasound in Solihull

A diagnostic ultrasound is a safe, painless imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time pictures of the soft tissues inside the body.

How it works

A handheld device called a transducer is moved over your skin. It sends high-frequency sound waves into the body, the echoes bounce back from the tissues underneath, and a computer turns those echoes into a moving picture on a screen. The scan does not use radiation, so it is completely safe and non-invasive.

Ultrasound at Olton Health and Performance

We use ultrasound imaging in two ways: as part of our regular diagnostic process, and as a standalone service that other healthcare professionals or insurance companies can refer into. A standalone scan may be appropriate if you have ongoing pain or loss of movement, if your symptoms have not settled despite rehabilitation, or if you would like more detailed information to share with a healthcare professional outside of our clinic (a GP, consultant or other allied healthcare practitioners). It can also be helpful for people returning to sport, training or physically demanding work, where understanding the nature of an injury and likely recovery process is important.

When you book our standalone service, your appointment includes the ultrasound examination and an associated report prepared by our CASE-accredited sonogrpaher, outlining the relevant findings. The scan is not intended to replace a full clinical assessment, and imaging findings should always be considered alongside your symptoms and examination. If appropriate, we can also discuss the findings with you and advise on possible next steps, rehabilitation or referral.
