If you’ve been a patient of mine, you’ll know I don’t always jump straight to suggesting a scan. Often, a simple assessment in the clinic gives us the information we need to get started with treatment, and a mix of rehab exercises, hands-on treatment, and a bit of patience often works wonders. But there are times when seeing what’s going on beneath the surface can really help guide the next steps.
Ultrasound is a painless and non-invasive way that we can look inside the body in real time, right here in the clinic. Unlike the static images you get with an MRI, we can even see what happens when you move. Used by a trained practitioner, this can often be a great way to pinpoint what’s causing the problem.
Here’s when an ultrasound can be particularly helpful:
- If you’re dealing with significant pain or loss of movement, it might signal damage that needs more attention—perhaps even a referral to a specialist or surgeon.
- When we suspect a condition that could benefit from a specific treatment, like a targeted injection into the joint.
- If that pain just won’t shift, even though you’re sticking to your rehab plan.
- Or, if you’re someone who needs to get back to full strength quickly—like an athlete or someone in a manual job—an ultrasound can help us get a clearer idea of recovery timelines.
That’s why we’re excited to announce our Ultrasound Scan Days! It’s the perfect opportunity to dig deeper into the cause of your pain and create a clear plan to help you move forward. We’ll have an experienced CASE-accredited sonographer on hand to provide a detailed report for you to take away. We’ll also offer advice on what to do next, with the option to book a follow-up session to make sure things are on track.
